DAN BROWN: WHAT CAN THE CHURCH LEARN FROM THE PIED PIPER OF POSTMODERNITY?

This will be good for not only the Christian response to the book but how it brought success to the book by making such an uproar.

The article explores why the book "The Da Vinci Code" has become such a major cultural icon and what the Christian church can learn from the success of its author Dan Brown. It details the reasons behind the increased sales of the book. It cites the possible responses of the church to the relativising of historical truth claims found in the book. There was a religious balance between male and female before the rise of Christianity according to Brown.

EVANGELICALS ENGAGE

This article focuses primarily on the Christian response to the book.

This article reports on the reaction of evangelical Christians to the controversies stirred by the book "The Da Vinci Code" and the motion picture of the same name. The story is offensive to many Christians and evangelical ministers are combating it with prayer and preaching. Some see the work as a boon. The film is compared to other religion-themed films, "The Last Temptation of Christ" and "The Passion of the Christ," the latter a major success with evangelicals.

Holywood: How the Religious Right is Reshaping the Movie Industry

The article focuses on the influence of the Religious Right on the movie industry in the U.S. The film "Left Behind: World at War" aimed at the Christian market has been released by Sony Pictures in DVD format. Sony Pictures, distributor of the film "The Da Vinci Code," has prepared for the controversy on the release of the film. Director Martin Scorsese struggled with his film adaptation of the novel "The Last Temptation of Christ."

For 'Da Vinci' suspense, read the book

This article can be used to see the negative impact the Christian community had on the film. The film seemed to smooth its edges to make sure not to offend too much which led to unsuccess with the film.

Alright guys here is what I have... it deals primarily with the reaction the movie garnered before its release.

CHURCH SPENDS $50K TO DEBUNK DA VINVI CLAIMS; ANGLICAN ADS TO BOMBARD VIEWERS AT CINEMA SHOWINGS.

Basically the Anglican church set up a campaign at movie theatres that was designed to get movie goers to question the books central claims. However, this was not designed to get people not to see the movie, but the church is aware of the power of film and did not want a fictional movie to fill the information void about Jesus Christ. They want people to remember the movie is fiction, not truth. Thus the theme seems to be that there was already a neagtive view of the movie before its release, but in order to create dialouge about the movie, people were not disencouraged to go see it.

DEFUSING THE MESSAGE OF A HOLLYWODD BLOCKBUSTER; EVANGELICALS PREPARE 'DA VINCI CODE' RESPONSE:

Here people are urged to see the movie and read the novel. The Campus Crusade for Christ wanted people to see where facts were skewed, and imagination took over. Although, it is noted that evangelical protestants would likely find the movie offensive. People said they would not back the film, and would only start protesting if it made people pursue another theolgical direction. Also, people saw the movie as a chance to speak the the truth about Jesus, and looked forward to controversy to inspire discussion. So, it seems apparent that religious groups are taking a new approach to controverisal film, rather than out right rejecting the film, they are looking for an opprotunity for dicussion about it, in an effort to reveal the truth about christianity.

'ENGAGING' HERESY:

This article again focuses on the new way that churches are taking an approach to controversial film. It notes that people prepared sermons and websites to "engage" this pop culture phenomenon. So people want to discuss it, not outright reject it. This approach is quite opposite to tradtional thinking, regarding film and christian platforms. Many critcial essay were prepared to discuss the truth of the movie, and the website that the motion picture company set up that was designed to inform would be viewers. The focus of this article was that if the movie was totally rejected before its release, then any repsonse to it would be undermined by those who had not read the book or were unwilling to see it.

honestly, i did enough research during my 13-week internship this summer to last me a lifetime, so i really cannot stand doing any more than i absolutely need to. besides, i prefer aesthetics anyways.

i never read the book, but it's not too difficult to find quotes from it. and i was thinking about movie clip: the main one being the discussion involving The Last Supper, Holy Grail (Sangreal), etc. - that one is on youtube. Also the one with Tom Hanks & the bloodline.

wish i could be more help but my test tomorrow has been my focus today.
